first morning

So here I am in Miami, enjoying the sunshine and the occasional cool breeze. It's hard to believe it's December because the climate is so different to back at home in the UK... we'd had a little bit of snowfall in London when we left, so the change in temperature is quite a shock.

Our first flight ended up being delayed, meaning we reached the airport in Philadelphia a bit later than expected. It was a long-haul, eight hour flight but we'd managed to reserve seats by the emergency exit so thankfully we had a lot of leg room and were able to stretch our legs. My mum did so well on the first flight... she listened to her audio tapes and got a little sleep, and wasn't too panicked by the turbulence. Overall it was quite a smooth flight, though it wasn't actually that enjoyable... it turns out I'm not particularly fond of flying either, and ended up getting extremely travel sick.

The next flight to Miami wasn't as good as our first. We had a bit more turbulence and because my mum was exhausted from holding herself together for eight hours, she got quite upset and scared. She eventually settled down though and we occupied ourselves by looking out of the window at the Miami lights below. It was amazing watching it get closer as we landed... it almost didn't look real.

Unfortunately, Sandy wasn't able to meet us at the airport when we landed... she couldn't find a way to get there so late at night. It did work to our advantage however, because my parents and I were so drained and tired that we were like zombies haha. After we'd gotten our luggage, we had to go and find our rental car before we could head for the apartment my parents are staying in... but we eventually got here at around midnight Miami time and of course went straight to bed! Because we were so tired, Sandy and I agreed to wait until Sunday to meet each other, allowing my parents and I some time to get ourselves well rested and settled in. We woke up at around 9:15am (2:15pm for the UK) and had some breakfast before venturing outside to try and find a Wal-mart. It only took us an hour and a half to find one haha.

Frosted Flakes for breakfast c: we initially bought things we're familiar with from a convenience store near our apartment, but we went "all American" at Wal-mart later in the day haha

We also managed to find some jam similar to what we have at home so that my mum can have her usual jam on toast for breakfast c:

A photo of some books we bought back at home. The "Florida 2010" book was on sale from last year but we thought it might come in handy... it details all of the best places to visit c:
